Historical ruins in Kuala Kedah Fort

Kuala Kedah Fort, or well known in Malaysia Language as Kota Kuala Kedah is located at the mouth of Kedah River. It is situated about 12km from Alor Star.

It is a historical site which was constructed during the reign of Sultan Sulaiman (1602-1609) with the assistance from Portuguese.

The lighthouse of Kuala Kedah Fort

The  main usage of Kuala Kedah Fort was to ward off Kedah’s enemies who came from sea and protected its capital city by then, Kota Setar from naval attacks.  The stone masons that built up the fort were reported to be brought in from India.

Six cannons facing the river estuary

There were six cannons facing the river estuary to attack their enemies. Meanwhile, many wars were fought at Kuala Kedah Fort during the 16^th century, making some of the fort’s structure to be devastated. However, local government had put their effort to restore the structure.

Besides, Kuala Kedah is a fishing village which famous for its variety of seafood dishes and a beautiful views of sunset.
